Food Security

Food security refers to the state in which all individuals have reliable access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs for an active and healthy life. It encompasses several dimensions, including the availability of food, access to food, utilization of food (which pertains to the proper biological use of food, requiring a diet providing the necessary nutrients and a clean environment), and stability of these factors over time. Food security is critical for reducing hunger and malnutrition, promoting health and well-being, and is often considered a key element for sustainable development and social stability. The concept highlights the importance of ensuring that food systems are resilient and can withstand shocks such as economic downturns, natural disasters, and climate change, ensuring that all populations, particularly vulnerable groups, can achieve food security consistently.
